Chien Ming Wang and Johnny Damon apparently have contract offers from multiple teams. When healthy, Chien Ming Wang is the premiere sinker-ball pitcher in the game. Chien Ming Wang recorded 38 wins(tops in the majors) for the New York Yankees during the 2006, 2007 season. Wang suffered a career altering injury in June 2008 when running the bases in Houston. Wang broke his foot and has never been the same. Wang was 1-6 with a 9.64 ERA for the New York Yankees in 2009. Wang was placed back on the DL during July, ending his Yankee career. The Yankees did not offer Wang arbitration this offseason, launching him into free agency. Wang claims he will be able to contribute to a Major League team by May. A few teams have been linked to Wang. The Nationals and Dodgers are considered front runners, with the Mets and Orioles showing marginal interest. Regardless of where Wang ends up, I hope he regains his old form.

Prediction: Washington Nationals

Johnny Damon really needs no introduction at this point. We’ve seen a million blog entries, mine included, about Damon. The Braves and Tigers seem to be the top front runners for Damon at this point. The Braves have apparently made a one-year offer to Damon. The Tigers have remained extremely interested, but have made no formal offer to date.

Prediction: Detroit Tigers

Both locations make sense for Damon. Damon’s home is in Orlando, FL, home of the Braves spring training complex. Damon is apparently a huge Detroit Red Wings fan. He enjoys driving Ford automobiles.(Just kididng). Regardless, I’m ready for Spring Training and hope both ex-Yankees make an impact this season.
